With the Premier League title all but out of their reach, Chelsea’s attention turns to securing their top four spot and retaining their UEFA Champions League trophy.

With their clear goals in mind, the Blues will look to strengthen in the January transfer window and have apparently picked out Anderlecht’s Sergio Gomez as a target.

Gomez’s age is a clear indication the club are looking to build for the future and Ismael Ghabri is another player Chelsea are reportedly hoping to sign, when his contract runs out at Paris Saint-Germain this summer.

There’s also a departure for a long-term Chelsea player, after Lewis Baker ended his 17-year spell in west London on Saturday.

Should Chelsea focus on their future or should they sign players to help them improve now?Let us know in the comments below!

Gomez is a January target

Having come through the Barcelona academy, Sergio Gomez joined Borussia Dortmund but failed to make an impact in Germany.

That cannot be said about his time in Belgium with Anderlecht, with Gomez showing what he can do and his form this season has alerted Chelsea to his talents.

TEAMtalk claim that having failed to sign Lucas Digne from Everton, Gomez is seen as someone who can push Cesar Azpilicueta for a first-team spot with Ben Chillwell out for the rest of the season with a knee ligament injury.

But the report adds that Anderlecht are reluctant to allow Gomez to leave this month with him grabbing 13 assists and six goals in 28 appearances so far this season.

Keeping tabs on Ghabri

Always looking ahead, Chelsea are keeping tabs on Paris Saint-Germain youngster Ismael Ghabri and plan on making a move in the summer.

Claims in France suggest that the Blues are ‘closely following’ the 17-year-old as his contract runs out in France.

However, it’s added that while staying with PSG is a ‘priority’ for the teenager, Ghabri is at least willing to listen to the proposals offered by the Premier League club.

Ghabri has made three appearances for Mauricio Pochettino’s PSG side this season.

Baker moves on

Lewis Baker made his first Chelsea appearance in the FA Cup against Chesterfield this season and a week later left the club.

Baker came through the Cobham academy but spent most of his nine-year stint at the club on loan, from Vitesse to Sheffield Wednesday, Trabzonspor to Leeds United, the midfielder was always on the road.

A raft of injuries hampered his development and after taking the field in the cup, Baker has now left in search of regular first-team minutes.

Chelsea’s official Twitter account said: “Lewis Baker has signed a permanent deal with Stoke City, bringing to an end his 17-year association with Chelsea.”
