Chelsea receive greenlight to sign Malo Gusto ahead of Barca, Madrid, Man United this January

Chelsea has shown interest in signing Lyon defender Malo Gusto this January, as the Blues have had their first bid for the French fullback rejected, with Barcelona, Real Madrid, and Manchester United all interested in signing the young fullback.

Gusto is one of the best young defenders in French Ligue 1 and in Europe’s top five leagues and would be a bargain for the Blues if they can secure his signature in this winter transfer window.

The 19 years old is a transfer target for Spanish La Liga giants Real Madrid and Barcelona, but Chelsea is closer to signing the player after reaching an agreement on personal terms.

Chelsea should do all it takes to sign the defender from Lyon this transfer window, as they need a perfect replacement for Reece James. The English defender has been struggling to stay fit since the start of the season, which has affected the Blues’ performance, with Cesar Azpilicueta not in the same form as usual.

Signing Gusto in this January transfer window will cover Graham Potter’s needs, as the former Brighton manager has been playing Trevoh Chalobah in that position. The Blues are already covered in the left-back position, with Ben Chilwell and Marc Cucurella and could achieve the same in the right-fullback position, with Gusto’s signing.
