Chelsea to break bank and sign Italian top striker

Done deal Chelsea first January signing arrives at Stamford Bridge, as fans delighted to welcome new star player

Chelsea are ‘willing to do anything’ to sign the AC Milan star according to Sportitalia.

The report details the Blues’ interest and the challenges faced by the Serie A side to tie down the forward to a new deal.

Leão’s deal expires in 2024 and his will is to stay at the San Siro. To achieve this, Milan would be forced to face a real bloodbath from an economic point of view.

Apart from paying [potential fee] to Sporting, the Rossoneri must also consider the agent commission. Milan and the Portuguese international consider Jorge Mendes as the point of reference. French lawyer Ted Dimvula, who has first granted the power of attorney by the player, cannot be ignored.

Milan tried to favour an agreement between the pair but found a refusal from Mendes. Due to the bureaucracy issues in Leão’s renewal, Stefano Pioli’s side seem to be stranded.

If Milan fail to extend Leão’s deal before June 2023, his ‘sale would in fact be inevitable’ next summer. This is where Chelsea come into the picture as they are leading the list of suitors.

Although Graham Potter’s side are ‘willing to do anything’, Sportialia insist the possibility of the deal taking shape in January is minimal. That’s because Milan will reject any offers and will try to secure Leão’s long-term future until the end of this season.

Without a renewal, the situation will be different next summer, when Leão will have a year left on his contract. Chelsea then would have ‘no problem’ financially to carry out the operation.

With ‘London calling’ Leão, it’ll be interesting whether Milan can overcome several issues to tie down Leão to a new deal. If not, his sale next summer is ‘inevitable’.
