BHA 1-1 CHE: Poor VAR and Referee decision deny Chelsea three points against Brighton

Last night, Brighton hosted Chelsea at the Amex Stadium. Thomas Tuchel needed a win to keep his ambitions of finishing in the top four this season alive.

Chelsea took the field in a 4-2-3-1 shape. Kepa Arrizabalaga was the goalkeeper while Mendy was still representing Senegal at the AFCON. Kante and Jorginho were the two defensive midfielders on the pitch. Tuchel elected to play Ziyech, Odoi, and Mount behind Romelu Lukaku rather than Christian Pulisic.

Chelsea supporters were incensed by their players’ performance last night. They took the lead through Hakim Ziyech in the 28th minute, but the hosts equalized in the 60th minute with a spectacular header.

Chelsea supporters chastised Tuchel for fielding an ineffective side and dropping unneeded points. Romelu Lukaku, who started in the striker position, was ineffective throughout the game. The Belgian created numerous chances but was unable to score. This was another instance of Lukaku failing to impress, following his poor performance in the previous encounter against Manchester City.

Chelsea supporters pleaded with Tuchel to sit him and start another player in the number 9 role, such as Havertz. Below are some fan reactions.
