Newcastle 0-3 Chelsea highlights: James scores brace as Cheslea extend their lead on top of EPL table

Chelsea’s wing back Reece James was the star of the game in Chelsea’s 3 nil victory over Newcastle United at St James Park over the weekend.

The blues defender chipped in with two goals as Chelsea secured maximum points at Tyne side but he could have grabbed a hat trick for himself when Chelsea were awarded a late penalty which was converted by Italian midfielder and blues ever reliable penalty taker Jorginho.

The midfielder has however revealed why he didn’t offer James the opportunity to go home with the match ball insisting that James didn’t ask to take the penalty.

Chelsea went into the game sitting on top of the table by one point but it wasn’t smooth sailing for the them as they struggled to break down a resolute Newcastle United side in the first half.

Despite the fact that the Magpies are still searching for their first win this season, they put up a spirited first half effort to keep their high-flying visitors at arm’s length until the 65th minute when James broke the deadlock in spectacular fashion.

The defender latched onto a loose ball inside the Newcastle penalty area to drill a fierce strike into the top corner to break Newcastle heart and give Chelsea a deserved lead.

Few minutes later, the Englishman made it two for the blues with another well taken shot inside the box.

Moments later, Kai Havertz was brought down in the box and the referee quickly pointed to the spot. With James a goal away from going home with the match ball and Chelsea already cruising, many Chelsea faithfuls expected James to take the penalty but Jorginho did instead and he has now revealed while he did not allow James to take the penalty.

Speaking to Chelsea official website, the midfielder said he didn’t give James the ball for the penalty because he (James) did not ask to take the kick.

He said : “He didn’t ask. “That’s important to be clear that he didn’t ask for anything. He just came over to support me.

Chelsea are next in action on Tuesday when they take on Swedish side Malmo in the UEFA Champions league.
