Reactions as Thiago Silva quotes an African proverb after Chelsea 2-1 over Leicester

Chelsea returned to winning ways after a hard fought victory over Leicester City at Stamford Bridge hours ago.

The London club came into the match looking to bounce back from the shocking defeat to Leeds United last weekend.

Thomas Tuchel, banned from the touchline due to his red card against Tottenham Hotspur made some little changes to the usual line up and formation the blues have been using this season.

With Kalidou Koulibaly serving his suspension, Trevor Chalobah got his first appearance of the season as he paired Thiago Silva in a back 4.

28 minutes into the match, Connor Gallagher got himself sent off after two reckless tackles that earned him two yellow cards. Chelsea had to mastermind a win with 10 men against the 11 of Leicester City.

Their job became much more difficult from that point but a masterclass performance from Raheem Sterling and the collective impact of all the players who were involved today saw Chelsea emerge 2-1 winners.

Tuchel’s men showed courage and heart as not so many teams can manage to do what they did in the match.

One of the best performers for Chelsea was Thiago Silva. The Brazilian defender who turns 38 next month was a vital key in the hard fought win.

Reacting to the win, Thiago Silva took to his social media to quote an Africa proverb that says, “If you want to go fast, go alone. If you want to go far, go together.”

According to the reactions in the comment section of this post by Thiago, many fans have confirmed that the proverb is indeed an African proverb as they heaped praise on the legendary defender.

Reactions from fans

From the way fans adore this man, it is such a pity that he arrived Chelsea at the twilight of his career. But they say, “it is better late than never.”

What Thiago has done for Chelsea in just the little time he’s been at the club, despite his age is truly remarkable. Many will even make a case that the former AC Milan and PSG legend has achieved legendary status at Chelsea too. Tuchel and the club are really very lucky to have him.
