Thomas Tuchel releases Chelsea lineup to face Middleborough in the FA Cup game

Middlesbrough welcome Chelsea to the Riverside Stadium on Saturday in the Emirates FA Cup quarter-final, looking for yet another unforgettable victory.

The Championship side advanced after defeating Tottenham Hotspur 1-0 in the fifth round, while the Blues had to beat Luton Town 3-2 on the road to the final.

While off-the-field concerns continue to plague the team, Chelsea, whose bizarre desire for the quarter-final to be played behind closed doors elicited a witty response from Middlesbrough, are continuing to speak their minds on the pitch.

There were fears that the Blues would be unable to play Lille in the Champions League last-16 second leg due to the restrictions imposed by their special operating licence, but the European champions made it to the Stade Pierre-Mauroy and advanced to the quarterfinals after Christian Pulisic and Cesar Azpilicueta cancelled out Burak Yilmaz’s penalty.

Chelsea’s win over the French champions was their fifth in a row—they had to come from behind twice to beat Luton Town 3-2 in the FA Cup fifth round—while Tuchel’s team has also defeated Chesterfield and Plymouth Argyle this season.

Tuchel will undoubtedly face concerns about the club’s ownership, but his team enters the quarter-final on a five-game winning streak away from home and will try to reach the last four for the third year in a row this weekend.

TEAM NEWS:

Andreas Christensen was forced to leave the game against Lille after 33 minutes owing to a suspected muscular ailment, and the Dane is unlikely to play in the quarter-final.

Reece James and Callum Hudson-Odoi’s participation is subject to late decisions as Ben Chilwell continues his lengthy road to recovery. Ross Barkley and Saul Niguez were both unable to travel to Lille, with the former recently admitting that he had tested positive for COVID-19.

As a result of the long flight home and quick turnaround, Tuchel should explore recalls for Romelu Lukaku, Trevoh Chalobah, and Mason Mount this weekend.
